PT-141
A prescription medicine, sold as Vyleesi, that works on arousal signals in the brain instead of on blood flow.
Learn about PT-141Also known as: MT-2
A lab-made copy of the hormone that tells skin to make pigment; it also touches appetite and arousal signals, and carries real safety concerns.
Melanotan 2 is a lab-made copy of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone. It switches on a family of receptors called melanocortin receptors. Those receptors help control skin pigment, appetite, and sexual arousal.
Melanotan 2 grew out of University of Arizona research in the 1980s. The goal was to get skin to make protective pigment without sun exposure, as a way to lower skin cancer risk.
During testing, an unexpected effect on arousal appeared. That observation led to PT-141, which was developed separately and eventually approved for one narrow use.
Melanotan 2 itself never reached approval. It spread instead through unregulated online sales, including nasal sprays, and health agencies in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and elsewhere have warned against it.
Melanocortin receptors come in several types, spread across skin, brain, and other tissues. Alpha-MSH, the natural hormone, activates them.
Melanotan 2 copies that hormone but is not selective. It switches on several receptor types at once, which is why one compound affects pigment, appetite, and arousal together.
The pigment effect comes from receptors on melanocytes, the skin cells that make melanin. Activating them increases pigment production without sunlight.
The appetite and arousal effects come from other receptor types in the brain. There is no way to get one effect without the others.

How this compound compares to related options in the wellness landscape.
Grew out of melanotan 2 research but targets arousal more narrowly. It is FDA-approved for one specific use; melanotan 2 is not approved at all.
Other compounds that support overlapping wellness goals.
Melanotan 2 is not FDA-approved. That means the FDA has not reviewed it for safety or effectiveness for the uses described here. The FDA and health agencies in several countries have warned against it. Reported harms include moles that darken or change, cases of melanoma, painful long-lasting erections, nausea, and blood-pressure changes.
Peptides in our shop are sourced from US-licensed manufacturers.
Melanotan 2 is not approved anywhere for any use, and the FDA and health agencies in several other countries have issued warnings about it.
Published case reports link it to moles that darken, change shape, or grow, and to cases of melanoma. Anyone using it needs skin monitoring.
Reported effects also include painful erections lasting hours and needing emergency care, nausea, flushing, and blood-pressure changes.
Products sold online are unregulated. Their purity and contents have not been verified, and non-sterile preparation is a documented problem.
