What are peptides?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids—the same building blocks that make up proteins, but typically 50 or fewer amino acids in length. Despite their simplicity, peptides play critical signaling roles in the body, regulating growth, metabolism, healing, and cognitive function.

Some peptides occur naturally in the body; others are made in a lab, often modeled on natural sequences. By binding to specific receptors on cells, peptides can trigger targeted biological responses that support recovery, healthy aging, and performance.

Classification

Types of peptides

Peptides are often described in two ways: where they come from, and the kind of role they play in the body. Those labels are educational—they help explain the science behind a compound.

On this site, the library is organized by benefit area (recovery, wellness, sleep, performance) so you can browse by goal. Origin and function labels may appear on individual compound pages; they are not how the catalog is filtered.

  • By origin: some peptides occur naturally in the body (endogenous)—for example, collagen-related peptides. Others are made in a lab (synthetic), often modeled on natural sequences, for specific applications.
  • By role: many act as messengers between cells (signaling); some support connective tissue (structural); and in wellness settings they are used toward targeted health goals. One peptide can fit more than one of these descriptions.
