GHK-Cu is a natural tripeptide made of glycine, histidine, and lysine, bound to a copper ion. Copper is a mineral the body needs in small amounts for enzymes that build and repair tissue.
GHK was found in human blood plasma in the 1970s. Researchers noticed it grabbed onto copper, and the copper-bound version turned out to be the active one.
Levels in blood drop sharply with age, from roughly age 20 to age 60. That decline is a large part of why it moved from wound-healing labs into skin care and recovery clinics.
Today it lives in two worlds. It is a common cosmetic ingredient in serums and creams, and it also appears in injectable recovery blends like GLOW and KLOW. Those two worlds follow very different rules.
Copper is a mineral your body needs in small amounts. Several enzymes that build and repair skin and connective tissue cannot work without it.
GHK grabs a copper ion and carries it. That makes it a delivery system, handing copper to the enzymes that need it at the site where repair is happening.
In laboratory studies, the copper-bound peptide increases collagen and elastin production, the two fibers that give skin its firmness and spring.
